The Reign of Kindo – Sunshine

This is the second released single off of The Reign of Kindo’s new album. The album comes out on July 30th, and I’m really excited for it. I rarely buy the physical copy of an album, especially since I pay for Spotify, but I plan on buying this one.

TRoK, formed from the remaining members of This Day & Age, can be loosely described as a rock band. Yet, their musical groove reveals a jazz influence. This translates to complex and beautifully interwoven instrumentals with smooth vocals and harmonies are layered on top. It’s so tasty.
Their lyrics range from painful heartache, to aging, to hauntingly dark stories of revenge. While this band is not a “Christian” band in the same way that Hillsong is, the band does not shy away from discussing their faith and some of their personal struggles with it.
In the sea of cookie-cutter bands and artists nowadays, The Reign of Kindo offers their listeners a refreshingly unique sound. I’m very grateful that my friends introduced me to them a few years ago. They quickly became one of my favorite bands, and maybe the same will happen for you.

Daft Punk (feat. Pharrell Williams) – Get Lucky (Daft Punk Remix)

There isn’t really anything special about the remix (especially by Daft Punk standards) other than it being LONGER THAN TEN MINUTES, but man, I just wanna dance at my work desk! Once 2013 is over, this song will surely be on many ‘best-of’ lists.

Pharrell may not be having as big of a year or making headlines like Jay-Z, Kanye, or JT, but he has been quietly, yet consistently, churning out hits and making moves in 2013. From contributing to the Man of Steel and Despicable Me scores to producing music with artists, such as Robin Thicke, Kelly Rowland, Frank Ocean, and Mayer Hawthorne (!!!), I won’t be surprised if he wins a Grammy for any of his work this year.

Jim Croce (has a great mustache)

Bad Bad Leroy Brown live

I found out about Jim Croce one day in my mid-to-late teens. I was at my cousin’s house and I was perusing his father’s albums. I saw one with a man with an enormous mustache pictured on the cover. Obviously, that was enough reason for me to listen. And I’m really glad I did.

I really like Jim. He’s got a unique voice (that I’m kind of surprised I like). His music is kinda folk-bluesy at times. And I enjoy his songs with character and story based lyrics. These live and remastered vids are pretty sweet. It’s cool to see how relaxed and happy he was to perform. Here are a few more of my favorite Jim Croce songs for anyone else who digs his tunes.

Roller Derby Queen live

How can a love song go wrong with lyrics like…..

“Well she might be nasty, she might be fat
But I never met a person who could tell her that
She’s my bleach blonde bomber
My heavy handed hackensack mama”

You Don’t Mess Around with Jim live

Martina San Diego – Wanted [2013]

Singer-songwriter Martina San Diego was the lead vocalist of the all-girl band Ivy Rose, a band from the Washington DC area. She moved to Cebu, Philippines to pursue a solo career and her debut album was just released! Here is the first single! I’m interested to hear how well-produced her album is knowing that Cattski, a well-known and SUPER TALENTED indie artist in the Philippines, is the executive producer.

Support indie! I also suggest checking the other artists from the 22 Tango Records label because I think they are producing some great music. Most of their music is available on Spotify.

From the Soundcloud page:

“Wanted” is Martina San Diego’s first single from the debut album Blank Walls.
