WHAAAAAT! The Mountain Brothers reunited for a song!!!

The hip hop nerd in me is geekin’ out!

So, back in middle school and before the days of YouTube, I had discovered this trio called The Mountain Brothers, a rap group consisting of three Chinese brohams from Philly, bringing great lyrics and boom bap production. I recall, before I had the ability to go online shopping, going to FYE and other random music stores and being bummed out when I couldn’t find their albums on the shelves.

They only released two full-length albums in 1999 and 2003. Last year, I discovered member still actively making music, Chops, had produced a song for one of my favorite Filipino rappers out there. By the way, the other two members, Peril-L and Styles Infinite, are a medical researcher and a doctor, respectively. WOW!

I decided to follow Chops on Twitter and also go the extra mile and hit him up with an email. I had asked him if there was any way to purchase any of his music since I had trouble finding their albums in stores (I like physical copies )…and he actually delivered! He sent me three albums, including the Mountain Brothers’ sophomore album. I was so pysched!

Chops now has a Kickstarter campaign to support his latest project, Strength In Numbers, an album gathering over 30 Asian American music artists, with a few from Japan and Korea. According to his Kickstarter page, here are the list of artists:

Ann One (LA), Baiyu(NYC), Bambu (LA), Catzie of Yellow Rage (PHL), Connie Lim (LA), Decipher (PHL),DJ Bonics (PHL/PGH), DJ Neil Armstrong (NYC), DJ Roli Rho (NYC),Dumbfoundead (LA), El Gambina (NJ), Erika David (Bay Area), Hopie (SF), Hoya(NYC), J-Key (NYC), Joanlee (LBC), Kiwi (LA), Lil Crazed (MN), Matt Cab (Tokyo), Mic Barz (ATL), Mountain Brothers (PHL), Nikko Dator (LV), Paul Kim (LA), Prometheus Brown (SEA), Rekstizzy (NYC), Rocky Rivera (SF), Ruby Ibarra (Bay Area), Tasha aka Yoonmirae (Korea), Thai (PDX), Tiger JK (Korea), Timothy Flu (ATL), Verbal of M-Flo / Teriyaki Boyz (Tokyo), and Yellow Boyz (ATL)

And then, he releases a music video for a new song, Keep On, with his old group! The lyrical skills are still there! Imagine that!
“I’m Styles Inf, the other M.D. MC in the game.” Man, if my physician could rap like that!

The video is shot in Philly because I know I walked all those streets (word to aluapook and joeycf!). I also want to include one of their music videos back in the day. GALAXIES, GALAXIES! If you love hip hop, you can’t deny the illness.

C’mon now!
